- Minimizes the impact of its carbon emissions through a variety of measures including packaging efficiency, renewable energy and, now, carbon offsetting
- Climate Conscious Delivery is powered by funding global environmental projects to offset the carbon footprint of all deliveries
LONDON 15 April 2020365体育官网: Farfetch Limited (NYSE: FTCH), the leading global platform for the luxury fashion industry, commits to offsetting the carbon impact of all its deliveries and returns, through its new Climate Conscious Delivery.
Farfetch is reducing its emissions by shipping with more efficient packaging sizes and incentivising retail and brand partners to select the correct size box for their item; shipping pieces in bulk via its fulfilment network; and now by offsetting the remaining impacts from deliveries and returns. It is also moving to more renewable energy in its offices.
Part of the company’s ‘Positively Farfetch’ sustainability initiative launched last year, and this latest commitment further exemplifies Farfetch’s mission to be the global platform for good in luxury fashion – empowering everyone they work with to think, act and choose positively. The company is working with EcoAct, a leading sustainability consultancy, to measure and calculate its carbon footprint in line with the internationally recognised Greenhouse Gas protocol.
365体育官网In addition to the new Climate Conscious Delivery approach, the company has launched in the last year a series of product features and campaigns helping its consumers to shop more consciously. These include both a resale (Farfetch SecondLife) and donation service (with Thrift+) to help consumers extend the life of their clothing and handbags.
Thomas Berry, Director of Sustainable Business, Farfetch, said: 365体育官网“Carbon emissions are the world’s biggest contributor to global warming, and we feel it is our responsibility to minimise our impact as much, and as soon, as possible. As a platform, our largest impact lies within our logistics network and we’re pleased to offer Climate Conscious Delivery to our customers who have already told us they are interested in sustainable delivery options. Our focus is on carbon reductions but, alongside that, offsetting is the most economically efficient way for us to reduce our environmental impact immediately. We believe that we are the first luxury multi-brand marketplace to offset in this way.”
Farfetch is investing in independently certified and verified global environmental projects to balance out the carbon impact of every single delivery and return. The four global projects focus on planting and protecting forests, as well as investing in new renewable energy developments, and are taking place in Brazil, the United States, India and China. All are verified to Gold Standard, American Carbon Registry or the Verified Carbon Standard.
365体育官网Farfetch is committed to reducing our aggregate greenhouse gas emissions globally and in 2019 signed the Fashion Pact and the United Nations Fashion Charter for Climate Change.
